WatchOS 6 deep dive: Deeper Mac integrations, new watch faces and apps

Apple is going to release the next versions of it’s operating systems. iOS 13 is not the only one getting major updates, watchOS 6 is also getting some major updates.

WatchOS 6 Release Date:

Apple will offer first look at watchOS 6 during WWDC 2019 in a couple of weeks. Most probably, developers will get their hands on watchOS 6 the same day and public release will happen in September. It is important here to note that Apple is not used to release public betas for it’s watchOS versions.

New Watch Faces & Complications:

According to a report from Bloomberg, Apple is releasing new watch faces with watchOS 6. These include a gradient face which allows user to pick a color and have a gradient colored watch face design. X-Large named 2 new watch faces will show large numbers in different colors and fonts. A new California watch face will be coming with mix of Roman and Arabic numerals. Solar Analog watch will will be redesigned and an infograph subdial will show larger complication like weather and stock.

Apple Authentication on Mac:

With macOS 10.15 and watchOS 6, Mac is getting expanded authentications. The news OSs will feature not just Mac unlocking with Apple Watch but other authentication operations will also be completed using Apple watch.

Details are yet to come but it is expected that every authentication that uses Touch ID will be shifted to Apple Watch with may be a new interface like Apple Pay.

App Store For WatchOS:

With watchOS 6, App Store is coming to your wrist. Users will now be able to open App Store directly from their watches rather than using the separate app from their iPhones.

As for sleep tracking, it is still not coming to Apple Watch this year but is targeted for next year in 2020. There are some other features coming as well but we’ll have to wait for the official first look coming up in a few weeks. A
